She skips down the court, chats with her buddies and waves to her fans. Darrin says things like "go get the rebound" or "loose ball!" and Madeline continues prancing and smiling. I'm reminded of my own dad shouting "Hustle, Lisa, hustle!" on the soccer field. I don't recall that it did much good.
Dribbling was her favorite part {that actually pertained to basketball}. She really is quite good at it and determined. When she had the ball she'd dribble down the court and then dribble around and stall for a good minute before moving in to shoot.
The post-game treats were really her favorite.
One game she seemed to run out of energy at the end of the game. When we asked her later her reply was something to the effect of -- my new pink shoes only have enough steam for the first half.
This is what a bunch of four year olds look like on defense. Madeline and her fellow purple "Arrows" were very good at following directions. When they were on defense they knew they were supposed to stand between the player and the basket with their hands up. And they took that job literally. Every play.
She shoots! She scores! Followed by immediate turn to her crowd of family for smiles and thumbs up.
There's always time for a smile. Even in the middle of the game.
The team huddles before going out to play. Notice that Madeline is physically turned and talking to her buddy from preschool. That's my girl. Darrin looks on with exasperation.
We had a fun season. Next up: Twinkle Toes ballet class.
