Tonight we had a small birthday celebration for Dave and Mom (aka Uncle Dave and Granny). There was playing, eating, singing, candle-blowing and more. A typical Gourley birthday extravaganza.
On the way home, a deer crossed the road in front of us. Darrin slowed down and we pointed the deer out to Madeline. Don't worry, we also looked every other possible direction to make sure that none of his other deer friends were hanging around. We are from Iowa after all.
Something about our deer sighting sparked a twenty minute, repetitive monologue by Madeline...
Just one deer, Daddy. Not a racoon. Not a fox. Just one deer. Not a fox. I saw a deer. Just one deer. No fox. One deer...continues for a long time...gets louder when she wants us to acknowledge "yes, Madeline, we saw a deer"....I don't see any more animals, Mommy. Where are the animals?
Mommy replies: Maybe they are sleeping? It's getting late. Are you getting sleepy?
Madeline continues: Animals are sleeping. They are already sleeping. In their beds. They need their blankets. No, they no need their blankets. Animals are sleeping. In their beds. I don't see animals. They are sleeping...
We'd like to blame the birthday cake (with delicious Target buttercream frosting) at 7:30 pm on a school night. In reality, I think we've just got a talker on our hands...
Haha, that was going to be my first question. How much cake did she have? What a honey!

It may have been the cake but Madeline does love to talk a lot. And she likes to express her verbal knowledge when she learns or hears something new. Just think of it this way, she could be a state record setter in debate class in High School if she goes that route. Savor, enjoy and record every precious moment such as this.

Ha ha! I love it! Lily carries on similarly only we can only understand bits and pieces of what she's saying. We should get those two together :)
