NYE 2010

One of our steadfast traditions is to celebrate New Year's Eve with the Luther gang each year. This year was no different. We packed up and headed to Iowa City for a few days. Funny how we used to be able to go with just a duffel bag and some food. Now it takes an entire carload and fifty different bags. One small little person, who shall remain nameless, certainly requires a lot of luggage.

We had a wonderful time catching up with old friends and eating delicious food. During the day we headed to the Iowa Children's Museum with the wee ones. We'd never been before and it was great. Madeline loved being able to run around and explore. There was so much to do there, and they had a special New Year's balloon drop at noon. Fun! Madeline played so hard that she ate a Chick-fil-A chicken nugget at lunch. A chicken nugget! A real chicken nugget!! This is like her first piece of knowingly ingested meat. It's the little things that make me happy. Just the little things.

The evening was filled with typical New Year's fun. We had a yummy spread of appetizers for dinner, a fully stocked bar, and wonderful friends. We played words games. We really like word games (charades, Catch Phrase, Mad Gab, etc). We called friends who were far away and couldn't make it. We played the infamous NYE game. (If I explained the game, it would sound dull. But trust me, it rocks.) There was much laughter. Several new phrases were added to the memorable list. Towards the end of the night we were feeling nostalgic and wrote a brief history of our New Year's fun on the NYE box of hats and noise-makers. We're hip, we're green, we wear the same hats (for about 15 minutes) each year.

It's fun to see how the group keeps growing. We had six kids (4 and under) there this year with more on the way. The kiddos had a good time playing together. And I only had to talk to Madeline 27.6 times about sharing.

Let's do it again next year.

  1. You think Madeline would eat some of Gma's fried chicken? Sounds like fun for all.
